The Lily Theather

Received The Lily Theater by Lulu Wang for Christmas. A novel about growing up in China during the 1970's, during the Cultural Revolution. Really gives you the flavor of what it was like, from kid's perspective, on 'caste rules' which never disappeared; taking being 'pc' to extremes and really messing with kid's reality in the schools; and from my perspective, the damage done to individuals who had knowledge and expertise in a subject, but were sent off to re-education camps, and then later reinstated to do what they were doing before. All seems to support a population in learning how to be helpless, at the effect of external locus of control, etc. Not a place I would have wanted to grow up in.

And thus, the trip should be an opportunity to explore cultural differences!

Be water.

Gaining momentum

China, departure April 2005.

So far, only 4 have signed up for the trip. We need 6 to make it a go. Between 6 and 10, we have a city guide in each location. Between 10 and 25, we also get a country guide who stays with us the whole time.
