Practice

I have discovered how to email my blog and create a post! I don't know what good this will do... but, giving it a try.

Going for a nut - don't you think it is in focus?

To Digital or Not, that is the question

I have been researching digital cameras, thinking that I might want to trade in my 35mm before the trip. Looked at dpreview, imaging-resources, steve's digicams, ecoustics. Read reviews and got on the forums. Ultra-zoom; image stabilizer; electronic viewfinders vs optical; LCD screens; megapixels .... I almost had it narrowed down to a couple of choices, then read a film-is-better-than-digital article linked by one of the responders to my questions, and my interest in digital began to wane.

Went back and looked at my notes from my Peru trip, and actually made a note back then that I used the 28mm end of my 28-200mm lens alot for my travel pix. So I began to search for that type of lens on a digital. Well now, this changes all the specs. Back to the drawing board ...

Finally got out a screwdriver and fiddled with the diopter on 35mm so that I can take pix without having to put my glasses on (which was a real drag in Peru and my motivation for going digital/automatic). Well, this has changed things. I can actually focus, even at the full zoom unassisted. Took a roll into 1-hr for processing, and the pix were fine, in focus and all.

Decision made! I'm taking my 35mm to China with my 28-200mm lens. Polarizer, I already have. Walking stick, monopod - got it. Flash - in the bag. Now I'm free to focus on the rest of my travelling gear!

Here we go!

I bought my new Brooks walking shoes; got a new pair of traveling pants at Freddies; and had my extra passport photos taken for the Chinese visa. Read the Let's Go China book on the main towns we will be visiting. All systems are go!
