Camera Testing in Montana

On a recent road trip to Montana, I put the camera through the typical shots that I would be doing on the fly, and was duly impressed. I think the camera is a keeper.

Here is a Montana valley - wide angle - the default position of the lens. 29mm.

Same valley, telephoto - 145mm equivalent. This works for me for the quick point and shoot photo ops I encounter.

The Clark River and mountains was taken at 75-80 mph zooming down the highway.

The only thing stopping one from a great portrait with this little zoom is operator error. The point and shoot has face detection, red eye reduction built in. The 70-145mm range is perfect for portraits.

Photo Op Planning

For my travels, a new camera, ultra compact for quick point and shoot when pulling the other one out of it's bag would take too long to catch the moment. Here's Rascal: the cats usually look away as soon as you press the shutter.

When in Egypt, there were several times I wished I'd had an alternative with me. I do have my camera phone which is really great, lovely wide angles, but takes too long to turn it on, and then I usually toggle on the video by mistake.
