Opal Creek in the rain

Went hiking at Opal Creek, east side of Willamette Valley, Cascade foothills, North Fork of Santiam. From heavy mist, to drizzle, to flat out rain. Seemed like this was the only place in the valley that got rain today!  You can see we were using umbrellas.  Because of rain, took only a few pix.  7 miles round trip to the Opal Creek Education center. Easy walking on a one lane gravel road.

Remnants of mining operations are found along the way.

The Education Center is in location of mining town from early 1900s.

Fly Prevention at the Beach

At the Sand Bar and Grill in Newport we had lunch on the upstairs patio. I spied this bag of water hanging in the door way and asked the waitress, what's up with that.

It's a fly deterrent - the flies get disoriented with the water or..well who knows. Seems as though the jury is out on the way this works.

But, in the meantime, the fish and chips are delicious!!
